Timeline: Feb 2021 - May 2021

The goal behind this project was to ask the question of “What formula for longevity, is unique to a domestic object archetype?” This project’s main design question will be pursued in the form of the household item; the coat hanger.

BRIEF

Primary - Secondary - Tertiary

PRIMARY –What does your design HAVE to do.

  1. The design must last for longer times than the original coat hanger.

  2. The design must facilitate for all forms of clothing used on a clothes hanger.

  3. The design must fit one of three design concepts; adjustability, modularity, durability.

SECONDARY -What SHOULD the design also do.

  1. The design should be visually appealing.

  2. The design should follow some/all of the interview feedback.

  3. The design should deliver value for price.

  4. The design should be made of high quality/sustainable materials.

TERTIARY -What would be also desirable but not crucial.

  1. Have a minimalist/modern style

  2. Change culture around the coat hanger

ADJUSTABILITY, MODULARITY, DURABILITY.

Phase one: Task Clarification

DURABILITY

This concept follows the idea of having a coat hanger made from a single-piece materal, possibly metal, that has high durability, and high lifespan.

ADJUSTIBILITY

This concept follows the idea of a coat hanger that can extend from a smalller hanger to a larger one.

MODULARITY

This concept follows the idea of a modular coat hanger, with multiple parts that can snap-on magnetically to the base hanger, which is a small sized coat hanger on its own.

Phase 2: concept refinement
