Timeline: Feb 2021 - May 2021

To practice our 3D-modelling skills, the project brief was to design a new Shoe. For the new shoe you will need it identify a suitable market, shoe type and existing brand to base your design on and drive your design process.

USER: The user demographic this shoe aims for is for users that are in their early teens, to young adult users. The market niche for such a shoe doesn’t exist, even though separately both tech-wear shoes and Heely shoes exist, providing an opportunistic market gap.

MARKET: The market niche for such a shoe doesn’t exist, even though separately both tech-wear shoes and Heely shoes exist, providing an opportunistic market gap.

PURPOSE: The purpose of the shoe is to fit within the tech-wear philosophy of functional, futuristic shoes, and to also implement the design of a Heely shoe to incorporate ‘fun’ into a shoe design that has not been seen before within the tech-wear community.

These concepts are designed around the idea of a techwear-style shoe, with a modular “Heely” component, exploring the different brand identities and material use to create these concepts.

Phase 1: Task Clarification

CONVERSE CONCEPT

This concept is an elastic sleeve, with plastic sides that incorperates converse’s star logo into a continuing star pattern.

NIKE CONCEPT

This concept also follows a thick, slightly slastic sleeve, and adjustable straps along points in the feet/ankles.

TIMBERLANDS CONCEPT

This concept looks at turning the design of the timperlands boot to have more of a techwear aesthetic, with elastic no-tie laces.

HEELY CONCEPT

This explores the concept of the “Heely” mechanism, and exploring a potential redesign of the container of the wheel.

Phase 2: Conept Refinement

Phase 3: Final Model
